Letters
I am posting OPEN, PUBLIC letters to several individuals and offices in the Virgin Islands who hold positions of authority and responsibility—people with the power to review my case, to investigate the failures that occurred, and to ensure that justice is finally pursued with fairness and integrity.
OPEN Letters to the two VIPD Chiefs of Police
To Chief Hodge
Chief of Police Deborah Hodge
St. Thomas–St. John District
Virgin Islands Police Department
Dear Chief Hodge,
I pray this message finds you well. My name is Martha, and I am a resident of St. Thomas. I am writing to you as one woman to another — as someone who believes in justice, compassion, and the duty to protect those who have been wronged.
I have lived through deeply traumatic experiences that I have reported to the Virgin Islands Police Department, yet my pleas for help have not been met with understanding or follow-up. I have been treated as if my words were the problem instead of the crimes I reported. I am asking, respectfully and urgently, for your personal attention and review of my case.
As a woman, I know you understand the courage it takes to come forward — and how easily a survivor’s voice can be dismissed or labeled instead of heard. I am appealing to you because I believe you care about integrity, fairness, and the protection of all citizens, especially those who have been silenced or disbelieved.
I would be deeply grateful for the opportunity to speak with you or a trusted officer under your direction who will handle my matter with care, privacy, and seriousness. I want to believe again that justice and compassion still live in the heart of our community — and that your leadership will ensure they do.
Thank you for your time, your attention, and your service to the people of St. Thomas and St. John.
I look forward to hearing from your office soon.
With respect and faith,
Martha

Letter to the Attorney General of the Virgin Islands
Subject: Request for Investigation into the Case of Martha (Last Name Presently Withheld on This Site)
Dear Attorney General,
I am reaching out as a concerned citizen who has learned about Martha's situation through her public website. From her detailed account and supporting documentation, it is evident that there are grave unresolved issues, including attempted poisoning, sexual assault, mutilation, and official neglect. These matters appear not to have been adequately investigated by the local authorities.
I respectfully urge your office to review the evidence Martha has compiled and to initiate an independent investigation into these incidents. Additionally, I ask that you examine how her complaints were handled by both the Virgin Islands Police Department, and Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital.
Justice should be fair and accessible to every resident, regardless of status or influence. It is essential that this case receives the attention and accountability it warrants. For further details and contact information options, please refer to her website at https://www.mypainfulstory.com.
Sincerely,

Letter to the Chief of Police – St. Thomas / St. John District
Subject: Request for Action and Review – Case of Martha (Last name presently withheld on this site)
Dear Chief Hodge,
I am writing as a concerned citizen who has read the public account of Martha and the serious claims she has documented, which include attempted poisoning, sexual assault, mutilation, and official neglect. I believe that, as a woman, you may personally identify with her situation and understand the urgency and sensitivity of these matters.
According to Martha’s statements, the Virgin Islands Police Department has not accepted or fully investigated her reports, despite the substantial volume of evidence available. I am respectfully requesting that your office personally review her case to ensure that all relevant evidence and hospital records are examined by qualified investigators.
Martha reported an incident of mutilation to the police, but the final report did not accurately reflect what was reported. This discrepancy raises concerns about the accuracy and thoroughness of the investigative process.
The public depends on the integrity and courage of your department to uphold justice for every citizen. Please make certain that this matter receives the attention it deserves. For further details and contact information, please refer to the website https://www.mypainfulstory.com.
Sincerely,

Letter to the Chief of Police - St. Croix District
Subject: Request for Action and Review – Case of Martha (Last name presently withheld on this site)
Dear Chief Cornelius,
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen who has carefully reviewed the public account of Martha, a resident of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Martha reports that she has been subjected to sexual assault, poisoning, and repeated threats. Despite her efforts to seek assistance from the police, she alleges that her attempts were mishandled.
Based on Martha's statements, when she attempted to report the sexual assault, the responding officer appeared to focus on arresting her rather than investigating the alleged offenders. Furthermore, it seems that her report was never properly recorded or investigated. Martha has since compiled substantial evidence relating to her case, including documentation and hospital records, which have not yet been thoroughly reviewed. Also there are lots of evidence in plain sight.
In addition to Martha's efforts to report the incidents, it is important to highlight that there is a significant amount of evidence readily available. This evidence is easily accessible and should be thoroughly reviewed as part of a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into her case.
With these concerns in mind, I respectfully request that your office re-examine Martha's case. It is imperative that a qualified investigative team reviews all available documentation, hospital records, and previous complaints. This review should be conducted impartially and without unnecessary delay.
The people of the Virgin Islands place their trust in police leaders to uphold justice with integrity and compassion. I urge you to ensure that this matter receives full attention and accountability it warrants.
Sincerely,

U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General
Virgin Islands Department of Justice
Dear Attorney General,
My name is Martha, and I am writing to request your attention and oversight regarding serious crimes of sexual assault that I reported to the Virgin Islands Police Department. Despite my efforts, my case has not been properly investigated, and I have not received the protection or justice that the law provides.
According to the Department of Justice’s own statement, “The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit of the Criminal Division is dedicated to the investigation and prosecution of misdemeanor and felony crimes of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Territory.” The goals of prosecution, as written, are to protect the victim, deter the perpetrator, punish the offender, and create general deterrence to violence and abuse in our community.
I am appealing to your office because these goals represent exactly what I have been denied — protection, justice, and peace of mind. I ask that my case be reviewed under the authority of your office and that appropriate action be taken to ensure that my rights as a victim and citizen are respected.
I still believe that truth and fairness can prevail in our justice system. I pray that, under your direction, my voice will be heard, and that the laws written to protect victims will be upheld in both letter and spirit.
Thank you for your time, your integrity, and your service to the people of the Virgin Islands.
With respect,
Martha

Letter to the Governor of the Virgin Islands
The Honorable Albert Bryan Jr.
Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands
Government House, St. Thomas
Dear Governor,
My name is Martha, and I am writing to you as a citizen and survivor seeking justice and protection. I have reported serious crimes of sexual assault and mistreatment, but my efforts for help and investigation have not been met with fairness or follow-up.
I have also appealed to the Attorney General and the Department of Justice, whose mission includes the protection of victims and the prosecution of sexual assault and domestic violence offenders. Yet those protections have not reached me. I am therefore appealing to you, as the leader of our territory, to ensure that the systems meant to protect us are functioning as they should.
Governor, I believe that true leadership stands on the side of truth, justice, and compassion. I trust that under your direction, the offices responsible for these matters will act with integrity, transparency, and care.
Thank you for your time, for your service, and for your commitment to the people of the Virgin Islands.
With respect and hope,
Martha
